Let me introduce myself...

Felisa M. Dunlap, MS., LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
AAMFT Approved Supervisor

Welcome!

My name is Felisa Dunlap, MS, LMFT, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and an approved AAMFT supervisor in Tennessee, Nevada, and Texas. I hold a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. With a decade of experience in therapy, including eight years of providing teletherapy services, I specialize in the treatment of trauma and co-occurring disorders, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and relational issues involving marriage, couples, and families.

I have extensive experience working with women, understanding their unique challenges and strengths, as well as with military lifestyles, rural communities, and individuals of Christian faith. My holistic practice can incorporate Biblical principles, lifestyle changes (nutrition, exercise, habits), and the healing power of nature. My therapeutic style emphasizes empowerment, mindful thinking, self-compassion, self-accountability, and congruence as foundational elements for healing. While my approach is rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, it is also client-centered, trauma-informed, and tailored to each individual’s experiences and circumstances.

I recognize the complexities of maintaining individuality within relationships and relate to the joys and challenges of wanting the best for children and grandchildren, providing for a family, and navigating life's uncertainties, past pains, and traumas. I understand the resilience needed to manage difficult times and the courage it takes to seek support. I view life as a journey filled with experiences and relationships—both inward and outward. Therapy can enhance this journey, and although it may involve unknowns, you can count on me to be empathetic, genuine, and accepting.

If you are ready to begin your therapy journey, I am here to explore with you, offer empathetic challenges, and walk alongside you as you move toward empowerment, healing, and growth. Our journey together is just a click away!

Be blessed,
Felisa - The Homestead Therapist

you can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

Yes, although these terms are often used interchangeably.

Counseling is typically short-term, goal-oriented, and solution-focused, aimed at resolving or improving a specific issue. Therapy, on the other hand, is often more long-term, exploring issues and experiences in greater depth. Therapy may address mental health concerns, emotional issues, and personal growth.

A therapist can provide both counseling and psychotherapy (therapy) services, tailoring the approach to best meet the client’s needs.

A typical session at Orenda Therapeutic Services, PLLC, lasts for 50-55 minutes. During this time, clients are encouraged to explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges in a supportive and confidential environment. Sessions can be tailored in length to suit individual needs, with some clients preferring shorter, focused sessions for immediate concerns, while others may benefit from extended sessions for deeper exploration of complex issues.

The session structure is flexible, designed to prioritize your comfort and personal goals, ensuring each conversation aligns with the pace and depth that feels right for you. This personalized approach allows us to adapt as your needs evolve throughout your therapeutic journey.

The cost of a counseling or therapy session at Orenda Therapeutic Services, PLLC, varies based on the type of service and whether you are using insurance benefits. For specific pricing information tailored to your situation, please contact our office.

General Pricing Information:

  • Non-Insured: For clients without insurance, sessions up to 55 minutes are $150 per session. We also offer a sliding scale to accommodate different financial situations—please ask about this option.
  • Insured: For clients using insurance, co-pays and deductibles will vary based on your individual benefit plan. We can help clarify coverage details and any out-of-pocket costs after verifying your benefits.

At Orenda Therapeutic Services, PLLC, we recognize that mental and emotional well-being is a journey that integrates mind, body, and soul. We support women as they navigate a variety of challenges, providing compassionate care for issues that impact their daily lives and sense of self. Common areas we address in therapy include:

  • Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma: These three often exist in a complex relationship, where one may trigger or intensify the others. Past trauma can shape the brain’s response to stress, making individuals more vulnerable to anxiety and depression. Our trauma-informed approach helps women process painful experiences, manage overwhelming feelings, and regain a sense of control over their lives. We work to heal emotional wounds, reduce symptoms, and build resilience, bringing a renewed sense of hope and inner peace.
  • ADHD, Trauma, Anxiety, and Depression: For many women, ADHD is an underlying factor that can intensify anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma. ADHD symptoms, such as difficulty with focus, organization, and emotional regulation, often go unnoticed or are mistaken for anxiety and mood disorders. When left untreated, ADHD can lead to feelings of inadequacy, heightened stress, and even low self-worth. We offer a nuanced approach that addresses the overlapping impacts of ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Through skill-building, emotional regulation, and self-acceptance work, we help women navigate these intertwined challenges, fostering a sense of control, clarity, and self-compassion.
  • Relationship and Interpersonal Issues: From friendships and family dynamics to romantic relationships, connections are central to women’s lives but can also be sources of stress or pain. Therapy can help you identify and understand relational patterns, set healthy boundaries, and work through attachment issues and relational traumas that may affect your ability to trust and connect with others.
  • Grief and Loss: Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or an envisioned future, grief can shape one’s mental and emotional landscape profoundly. We offer a compassionate space for women to process grief in their own way and time, acknowledging the complexity of loss while helping them find meaning, acceptance, and healing.
  • Self-Esteem and Body Image: Self-worth and body image can be particularly challenging due to societal pressures and past experiences. We help women cultivate a positive relationship with themselves and their bodies, fostering self-acceptance and countering critical self-beliefs. Addressing this mind-body connection is essential to mental and physical well-being.
  • Life Transitions and Identity: Women often face unique challenges during major life transitions, from career shifts and family roles to aging and retirement. Therapy provides a supportive space to explore questions of purpose, identity, and self-worth, helping women navigate these changes with greater resilience and a renewed sense of direction.
  • Physical Health and Chronic Illness: Chronic health issues, menopause, fertility challenges, and other physical health conditions can bring a host of emotional and mental challenges. We help women manage the emotional toll of physical health issues and develop self-care strategies to build resilience and acceptance, understanding that the mind and body are closely connected.
  • Spiritual Exploration and Fulfillment: For many, spirituality is an essential part of healing. Whether through Christian counseling or personal exploration, we support women in seeking meaning, connection, and fulfillment, offering an approach that honors the whole self—mind, body, and soul.

By offering support for these areas, we aim to help women move through life’s complexities with strength, awareness, and resilience. At Orenda, we honor each woman’s unique journey and work to empower them to embrace their inherent worth, potential, and sense of inner peace.

At Orenda Therapeutic Services, PLLC, we offer a range of evidence-based therapies tailored to empower women on their healing journeys. Each therapy provides unique tools for building resilience, processing emotions, and finding balance. Here’s a closer look at the therapies we incorporate:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps women identify and challenge negative thought patterns, fostering healthier beliefs and behaviors. This approach enables clients to replace self-limiting thoughts with more constructive ones, helping them develop coping strategies that promote self-empowerment and emotional well-being.  The following are a few specific areas treated with CBT:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ADHD (CBT-ADHD)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety (CBT-Anx)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anger (CBT-Ang)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CBT-PTSD)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Illness (CBT-CI)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD)

 Religiously-Integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (RI-CBT)
Christian Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Christian CBT) and Religiously-Integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (RI-CBT) can be incorporated if desired, blending traditional CBT with the client’s faith practices to create a spiritually integrated approach that aligns with their beliefs and values.

Somatic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (SCBT)
SCBT adds a physical or bodily component to traditional CBT techniques. Recognizing the connection between mind and body, SCBT teaches women to become aware of how their bodies respond to stress and emotions. Through exercises like mindful breathing and body scanning, clients learn to release tension and trauma stored in the body, fostering a deeper sense of calm and resilience.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) MBCT combines mindfulness meditation with cognitive behavioral techniques to help women break the cycle of depressive relapse. It helps clients increase their awareness of thoughts and emotions and teaches them to approach their experiences with acceptance, reducing negative thought patterns and promoting self-compassion.

Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (IB-CBT)
IB-CBT is particularly helpful for individuals struggling with obsessive thinking and doubt, such as in OCD. This therapy focuses on the faulty reasoning that often drives distressing thoughts, helping women examine and challenge the inferences they make about themselves, others, and the world. By replacing fear-based assumptions with evidence-based reasoning, clients gain clarity, reduce anxiety, and foster self-trust.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Specifically designed to address trauma-related thoughts, CPT empowers women to process painful memories and reduce trauma-related distress. This therapy helps clients understand and reframe beliefs about traumatic experiences, promoting healing and a sense of control over one’s life.

Cognitive Narrative Therapy (CNT)
Cognitive Narrative Therapy focuses on helping women understand and reshape the stories they tell themselves about their lives, particularly those influenced by trauma or negative life events. This therapy empowers clients to rewrite their personal narratives, transforming them into more empowering, hopeful, and resilient stories that reflect their strengths and growth.

Exposure Therapy
Exposure Therapy helps women confront fears in a safe, supportive environment. By gradually facing anxiety-provoking situations, clients learn to reduce their fear response over time. This approach not only reduces anxiety but also builds resilience and confidence, empowering women to move through life without the limitations of avoidant behaviors.
There are several types of exposure therapy we may incorporate, depending on each woman’s unique experience:

  • In Vivo Exposure: Direct, real-life exposure to feared situations or objects.
  •  Imaginal Exposure: Vividly imagining distressing or traumatic experiences that can’t be safely recreated.
  • Interoceptive Exposure: Intentionally recreating feared physical sensations.
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): Facing feared thoughts or situations without engaging in compulsions.
  • Virtual Reality Exposure (VRE): Virtual environments to safely confront fears in a controlled setting.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT provides women
IB-CBT is particularly helpful for individuals struggling with obsessive thinking and doubt, such as in OC.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT encourages women to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than avoid or struggle with them. By focusing on personal values, clients learn to commit to meaningful actions and make choices aligned with their true selves, promoting a fulfilling life even amidst challenges.

Family Systems Therapy
Family Systems Therapy works to address dysfunctional patterns within family dynamics. It helps women identify and shift roles, rules, and communication patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress. It’s particularly effective for those with relationship issues, family conflict, or histories of trauma within the family system.

Together, these therapies offer a powerful, holistic approach to healing, addressing the mind, body, and soul. By combining these methods, we guide women toward self-discovery, resilience, and a deeper sense of well-being, creating a foundation for lasting growth and transformation.

Are you wondering what a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is? Simply put, an LMFT is a highly trained mental health professional, educated at a minimum of a master’s level, and specialized in the treatment of marriage, couples, and family issues. LMFTs are uniquely equipped to understand and address problems within the context of relationships and social systems, which is known as a systemic perspective.

What is a Systems Approach?

The systemic approach is based on the belief that individuals’ challenges often reflect patterns or dynamics within larger social and familial systems—like families of origin, current family units, peer groups, communities, and cultural influences. This perspective guides the therapist’s work, whether the session involves one individual, a couple, or an entire family. Even in individual therapy, systemic thinking recognizes that each person is connected to and influenced by these larger systems.

What Can You Expect from an LMFT?

An LMFT's role is collaborative, neutral, and non-judgmental. They bring empathy and objectivity to facilitate positive change and help clients find balance within their relationships and environments. Whether you attend therapy alone or with family members, an LMFT will approach your concerns with an understanding of how these systems shape your experiences and relationships. While having multiple family members or partners in the therapy room can enrich the process, systemic change is possible through individual work as well.

Licensing and Professional Standards

LMFTs are licensed by their state’s licensing board, which sets strict standards for education, skill, and ethical practice. To become fully licensed, LMFTs must complete extensive academic and practical training, pass rigorous exams, and undergo supervised clinical practice. Each LMFT is required to meet these stringent qualifications to provide high-quality mental health care.

LMFTs bring a depth of training and a compassionate, holistic approach to therapy, making them uniquely suited to help clients navigate the complexities of relationships and personal challenges within the broader social context.

Please note: No onsite clinical experience is offered.

Licensure Supervision Fees

  • Primary Supervision: $300 per month
This option includes full access to supervision support and a minimum of one hour of supervision weekly, which is required for licensure supervision. Additional supervision hours are available and included in the monthly fee, allowing for ongoing guidance and support as needed.
  • Secondary Supervision: $5 per session
Secondary supervision is ideal for those who are receiving primary supervision elsewhere but seek additional support in case conceptualization. Sessions focus on a client-centered, trauma-informed, holistic approach. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Religiously-Integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (RI-CBT, Christian) modalities are also available upon request.

Felisa’s supervision style empowers emerging therapists with the tools and insights needed for an ethical, effective, and compassionate practice.
